The 3 Castles Ultra was inspired by the Three Castles Path, which in turn was inspired by the journeys taken by King John between Winchester to Windsor via the castle he had built at exactly halfway near Odiham.

The 3 Castles Ultra starts in Winchester, travels through Odiham and on to Windsor via wonderful woodland paths, canal towpaths, scenic trails and footpaths and country lanes. Expect gentle gradients, with few steep hills, fantastic scenery and peaceful tranquility.

You will start in Winchester, home of the site of Winchester Castle which was built by William the Conqueror (and destroyed by Cromwell) taking in the amazing sights around Winchester Cathedral.  With a fully signed route you'll carry on cross country before picking up the Basingstoke Canal right into Odiham.  Here you will see the ruined keep of King John's Castle.

Shortly after the castle ruins you will arrive at the halfway point along the route - and the finish of the 50k!

The 100k'ers will continue to follow the Basingstoke Canal away from Odiham and head on towards Windsor.

You'll pass the Copper Horse statue  (bronze statue of George III) and the Long Walk, which links the Great Park to Windsor Castle, a royal residence for 900 years.

This is a superb route, ideal for first-timers, for those looking to step up to the 100k distance and for seasoned ultra-marathoners looking for an amazing route to appeal to all senses!
